LOST MY FIRST LOVE. BY J. H. A. BONE. I was1 in love deeply, passionately in love It was my first plunge, and it was a deep one. Thej lovely enchanting peerless Amanda Louisa !Mnitnor9,iiaa conquerea my virgin ai fecti ons, and male them the slaves of her will ! I was no rich in the worlds goods ; my in born was inconveniently limited ; but 1 was rich in hop?. Like Mr. Micawbor, I felt con ceit that 'something would turn up,' and in anticipation of this something, I determined on t!io first opportunity to propose to the ob ject of moderation, that she should share Ywith me m the enjoyment of my expected good fortune, - Ti e opportunity at length offered itself. It was on a cold frosty cveuing that I brubh cji my carefully preserved dress coat, and par tieularljr, tight 'unwhisperables,' and then gent ly d listed ii ly hat with my own handkerchief. I then studied my appearance in the crack ed m rror,. with considerable anxiety, pulling up my vest collnr and twitching my neck tie nrour'l in order to conceal the fact that I wore thnt much ridieulcd article uf attire a dickey. I felt as if I diad been plunged into an icy bath, and that the cold liquid was running through me from the top of my head to the toe of my boots. A GOOD ONE. L The New-York Spirit of the Times publishes iue ionowing gooa un : - About the time of the inauguration of Presi dent Pierce, a gentleman named Parker, be-! n :, j i. u longing to Concord, joined in the general rush; to witness the great ovation. . Our friend, who is an attorney of some notei ! has pot bcen.rauch of a traveller, but is "well awara that thero are such things as the swapping, of umbreltars and hats at big hotels. To guard againt thtf loss or exchange of his new tile," Mr. P. got a printer to strike him off a four-inch square card, upon which looked out of the crown of his hat, in bold two-line pica, ASA PARKER, ATTORNEY AT LAW, C03TCORD, NEW . HAMPSHIRE. There was a great rush at "Willard's on in auguration da indeed there was a.peffect jam everywhere and our friend Parker found some difficulty in getting down to the dinner table along with some of his townsmen. The dinner was a fine one, the champaigne deli cious, and after an hour's sitting, the New En landers left the table in the merriest mood imagil able. . 'Now. fellows,' said Parker, as they emer ged from the dining-room 'every one look out for his own hat; I've got a mark on mine that nobody can mistake.' . But there "was some sort of a mistake some where, notwithstanding. It was some time before Mr. Parker found his hat at all,' and even then he labored under the impression that it had grown a trifle older since he went to dinner. But the placard was in the crown. ,n.:.U a -l . - T ' all right and " Asa Parker, Attorney atLaw, t.uiu oiai tvA m ii j ill iue face as he looked inside. But he only put the hat on the top of his heid, for it was entirely too small to go on. And again he attempted to pull the hat on. The party arounl could illy suppress laugh ter at the comical motions of the embar; assed lawyer, but he did not appear to. nottce it, arid industriously endeavored . to make the hat fit somehow. NIn a state of the most absolute be wilderment, he at length turned to one of the party, andrPsenting die hat, desired him to tell what Mm? was in it. The man read 'Asa Parker, Awcraey at Law, Concord, New llam psliire.' .' All right of course,' e claimed Tarker, again atttmpting to pull on the hat, only to his ri-eater bewilderment. ,'Will you have the kindness to tell me who I am V Sjjiid he, still more perplexed. 'Certainly,' said the man addressed ; you are Asa Parker, Attorney at Law, of Concord, New Hampshire.' - 'Of course, said P. 'Darn it, I knew it.' And he made one more trial at the hat. It would be very difficult to say whether Mr. Parker knew himself from 'a boleiu the ground'-about this juncture ; he looked again into the hatand read the inscription, and then at his friends, who still preserved straight faces, and finally cavnl. - j 'Gentlemen, said T. with intense gravity, 'if I aih Asa Parker, Attorney at Law, Con cord, New LTampshire, and this hat belongs to Asa Pai ker, Attorney at Law, Concord, New Hampshire, all I diave to say, is, that my head has swelled moat d 'y since I went to dinner! The inflamma tion had been so extensive that the who'e fTnrer had become almaftt-a.moe f eormption, antf tlie" only hope of saving ner hand, and perhaps her life, appeared to be to have it cut off. As her gen eral health was jery delicate, the physician lid- vised as to try the Mustand Linimrnt a few days, till she could be sent to a surgeon in Columbus, as it could do no harm, and might prevent mortifica tion. To the astonishment of the doctor, andf my self, the pain toon ceased, the infatuation subsided and thewound rapidly healed.
